I am preaching for a month or two now in Staten Island, New York, across the Arthur Kill from Elizabeth, in a church where the parents of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton were members. But they were married in St. John's church in Elizabeth since Elizabeth's mother was apparently underage for New York. St. John's was an SPG church founded by Queen Anne in 1706.  The Staten Island church, the (now, Episcopal) Church of St. Andrew, was founded by the SPG in 1708.  The Vicars of the two churches were friends. When I checked further about Florence Nightingale, I discovered that 'our nurse' was actually predated by Florence Nightingale by about 7 years:
"Florence Nightingale was born to a wealthy English family in Florence, Italy, on May 12th, 1820. She trained as a nurse in a hospital run by a Lutheran order of Deaconesses at Kaiserwerth, and in 1853 became superintendent of a hospital for invalid women in London. In response to God’s call and animated by a spirit of service, in 1854 she volunteered for duty during the Crimean War and recruited 38 nurses to join her. With them she organized the first modern nursing service in the British field hospitals of Scutari and Balaclava."
