Dear Joe,

Having completed the commentaries on the lectionary readings for the Old Testament, Gospel, and Epistle, I have started work on the Psalms.

I recently posted the commentary for Psalms 1, 19, 22, 23, 25, 30, 31, 32, 34, 51, 80, 85, 96, and 98.  Each of these appear FOUR or more times in the lectionary cycle.  I have started work on the other 10 Psalms that appear four or more times.

Once I have completed those ten, I will work on the 16 Psalms that are used THREE times in the lectionary cycle.  That will take most of 2018, if my projections hold true.

Then I will work on the 27 Psalms that are used TWICE in the lectionary cycle.  That should take most of 2019.

Finally, I will work on the 29 Psalms that are used only ONCE in the lectionary cycle.  I hope to complete those by the end of 2020.

I am excited about working on the Psalms because:

- They appeal strongly to our deepest emotions.
- They teach us how to pray.
- There are so few verse-by-verse commentaries on the Psalms.  I suspect that this is because publishers must keep costs down on books that aren't likely to be best sellers.

Because I publish online instead of in print, I can write as much as needed.  I am excited about making commentaries on the Psalms accessible on the Web.

I have been energized by this work.  It reminds me of a professor from many years ago.  He said that, as we age, we increasingly find fulfillment in our work.  That has certainly been true for me.

Take a quick look at a sample of what I have done so far.  You can see the commentary for Psalm 1 by going to:
https://www.sermonwriter.com/biblical-commentary/psalm-1-commentary

You can see the commentaries for the rest by going to:
https://www.sermonwriter.com/biblical-commentary
In the LEFT column, click on Psalms, and then click on the Psalm that you want.

I will be adding to this list, hopefully at the rate of one Psalm every two weeks.

Dick Donovan

P.S.  As you can understand, this is a substantial undertaking for an old man.  I would appreciate your prayers for the strength (mental and physical) to complete this work.
