Our situation as Xns is like the story of the old landlord told by Pr. Larry
Christiansen. Supposing that we live in a run-down apartment; the best you
can afford. There are holes in the walls & ceiling; the carpet is threadbare
with roaches everywhere. The windows leak cold air in the winter & let flies
in the summer...faucets drip constantly. Yet the landlord still collects the
rent, and when we hesitate to pay because of the poor conditions, he
threatens higher rent. We have nowhere else to live & can't afford anything
better, so we keep on paying the rent until one day, when we hear a knock at
the door. We open it to behold a well dressed, polite young woman who tells
us that she has just purchased the building we live in! She asks to inspect
the premises and as she sees what we are living with, she is appalled &
promises to make repairs & lower your rent. Shortly after she leaves you
hear another, harsher urgent knocking on the door, and open it to find our
angry old landlord standing there demanding his rent. Do we give in to his
intimidations & pay, or resist him? We are filled with fear as we realize
that we don't have the power that he has to make us pay! Then we remember,
the place doesn't belong to him anymore; we have a new landlord and so tell
the old one to take the matter up with the new owner.
The old landlord, Satan will harass & intimidate us, but the reality is that
the strong man is tied up! We have been bought & paid for and so have a new
landlord.
The stronger One who is both God and man prevails.
