I too am in the dark, Bob, on what to preach about on this.
One of our members knows two families there who had no fatalities.
So it is that close.
And I once worked for a church about 20 miles away in Connecticut.
I now live only about 60 miles from Newtown.
I think about gun violence, divorce, children, parents, teachers.
The CT story is now the number one news item in mainland China.
My friends in England knew the name of the school before I did.
Surely someone will ask, where was God in all this.
I tend to say that the devil is actually the world's governor.
That's from Revelation, I believe.
Then the question, where was their guardian angel when they needed it?
The web site of Trinity Episcopal Church there shows a peace parade.
But of course what we want and what exists are unfortunately different.
In the kingdom of God, children are supposed to turn towards parents.
But the kingdom is still arriving.
The number of deaths were approximately twice that of Columbine.
So the excalation seems something that needs a solution.
In Elizabeth, NJ, where my church is, metal detectors are at schools, and have been for over a decade. A younger brother of one of our Sunday School girls years ago said his 14 year old sister carried a gun to school. She was a very quiet and nice girl who attended regularly.
The crackdown on guns here has led gangs to have only one gun each.
They pass it around; apparently without a gun they can't be a gang.
But Adam seemingly was a loner.
Newark collected hundreds of guns when they offered about $200 each.
Now New York is doing that.
However, I haven't heard of any suburbs with a gun buy back program.
Fear seems the number one motivator for having a gun.
What happens when an 'unstable person' has access to one, or three?
Peace and healing prayers for the people of Newtown, Connecticut,
Joe

Subject: CT Tragedy
Dear friends on the Propers
This would be a good time for us to share thoughts, reflections and information concerning the school shooting in Connecticut, with each other so as to prepare for Sunday services. I am at a great loss to know where to begin.
Shalom, Bob Cook Waynesboro, PA
