A THOUGHT ON PREACHING:  The preacher has only to deliver food, not flash;
Gospel, not uplift. And the preacher's congregational family doesn't even
have to like it. If it's good food at the right time, they can bellyache all
they want: as long as they get enough death and resurrection, some day they
may even realize they've been well fed. (Robert Farrar Capon, courtesy of
Fr. Charles Hoffacker)

TRUE STORY:

Some year ago, a man named Andy Eddington had a prison ministry. He would
visit prisons and preach to the inmates. On one of those trips, he stopped
at a café to get something to eat. When the waitress brought his coffee, he
spooned three big teaspoons of sugar into his cup as the waitress stood
watching. He then said to the waitress, "Ma'am, we're going to need more
sugar for this table." The waitress looked at him and replied, "Listen,
bud! Before I give you more sugar, you stir what you got!"

THOUGHT PROVOKERS:

The true believer in the Holy Spirit
is one who knows how to hoist the sail of his own spirit
to catch the winds of God.

Every time we say, "I believe in the Holy Spirit,"
we mean that we believe there is a living God
able and willing to enter human personality and change it.

J.B. Phillips

Father!  Replenish with Thy grace
This longing heart of mine;
Make it Thy quiet dwelling-place,
Thy sacred inmost shrine.

Angelus Silesius

Those who have the gale of the Holy Spirit
go forward even in sleep.

To the church, Pentecost brought light, power, joy.
There came to each illumination of mind,
assurance of heart, intensity of love,
fullness of power, exuberance of joy.

No one needed to ask if they had received the Holy Ghost.
Fire is self-evident.
So is power!
