...in the Transfiguration of Jesus, the true identity of Jesus is revealed. Christ is the very Son of God. His face became like God's. His clothes shone like they were on fire and that is the Bible's way of saying that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is not one more religious genius. He is not a religious giant. He is not one more prophet. He is not one more Ghandi, Confucius, and Mohammed, all rolled into one. This is the only Son of God who has ever walked on earth. That is what God wants to communicate this morning.

Have you been to the mountain? Have you had visions.where you know for sure that you are loved by God? Visions.that Jesus Christ is the mind of God, the heart of God, the Son of God, the truth about God. Have you caught that vision? Visions of what it means to love one another. Have you caught the vision of God's kind of love? Have you been to the mountain? With Martin Luther King Jr., have you beeeeeeen to the mountain and have you seeeeeeen the Promised Land.

Let us pray. Creator God, you have called us to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. That path leads us up to high mountain top experiences. We feel closer to you than ever before. As we long to dwell in those mountain top places, those places where we bathe in your radiance, remind us that we can't stay there forever. You also called us to walk on the earth in the midst of those in need, in the midst of those who ask us to be present in their lives. Remind us as we walk on this earth and serve one another, we look forward to the glory of being in your heavenly realm, the place of eternal life. In the name of the One whom we followed there, we pray. Amen.

...he reported that he had indeed gone through an NDE. It was an illusion, he insisted, caused by brain chemicals. I still do not believe in anything at all except science. When we are dead, we are dead and that's that. However, he seemed less afraid of death than most of his atheist colleagues. One of them asked him if he was not afraid that he might be wrong. Promise you won't quote me? Yes. Well, I figure that if the NDE was all an illusion then I have nothing to lose by saying it was an illusion. On the other hand, if the person in white that the brain chemicals made me imagine is real, well there's so much love there, I have nothing to lose either because I will be forgiven. So it's a good gamble. Oh, said his colleague.

2 Corinthians 3:12 - 4:2 [OK, not the Gospel, but too cute not to notice, as usual!]

"That Moses. He's such a kidder!"

Two sheep in a cartoon talking:

First one, holding a bubbly cocktail glass, "Now what?"

Second, wearing a veil over its mouth and nose with tassels on the veil bottom, says "I'm trying to understand Moses' motivation."

First one, "Moses wore a veil to hide his glowing face after his encounter with God, not because he wanted to be a belly dancer!"

Second sheep: "I knew that."

First one looks peeved and skeptically concerned.
