+William,
You are right in the sense that there is too much emphasis on licity,
however it is the person being consecrated's obligation to know and check,
as much as possible, that his consecration is licit. The consecrating
bishops have the obligation of providing the ordinand, both priest and
bishop candidates, his valid lines. i.e. What gives him the right to ordain
or consecrate a candidate to the priesthood or the episcopate?
Apostolic Succession is very important to Old Catholic Bishops and to
denigrate its importance is to say that anyone who wants to declare himself
a pope or a bishop could do so with impunity.
Traceable lines are mandatory to accepted standards. The only requirement is
that they trace back as far as possible to a validly consecrated individual.
Gul to Mathew meets those standards, therefore Carfora meets the standard.
I do agree that your quote is heard too often in discussions "...my orders
are more valid than yours."
Blessings,
+Marty

O often wonder why people worry so much about such things. These sort of
discussions usually degenerate eventually into "...my orders are more valid
then yours" stuff.

The "actual" connection is the fact that the Carfora Lines are traceable
through Matthew to Utrecht and therefore vital the the carfora's validity
and
possible liceity/
If by direct you mean DeLandis etc had no Dutch lines directly from
Utrecht. "actual and direct" would be true, but derivitiive woudl be
clearer
a term.
